In early 1987 David Kiihnl, Ron Short, Bill Koenig, Steve
Leesman, Richard Schultz, and Robin Novak got together to
discuss starting a local chapter of the International Facility
Management Association. Initially the chapter included the
Greater Cincinnati and Dayton metropolitan areas. The pilot
meeting was held on April 22, 1987 by Ron Short and David
Kiihnl.
On May 27, 1987, the first meeting was held and officers
inducted. The first board of officers was:

- Bill Koenig, Advisor to the President
- Richard Schultz, Vice President/Cincinnati
- Gary Fridenmaker, Vice President/Dayton
- Steve Leesman, Secretary/Treasurer
- David Kiihnl, Media Chair
- Robin Novak, Programs Chair
The Chapter was named the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton Area
Chapter of IFMA.
On June 15, 1987 the constitution and by laws of the International
Facility Management Association were adopted. The charter
was presented to the chapter on September 23, 1987 by Mr.
David Cotts, President of IFMA.
In September of 1987 the chapter started with 31 members,
and by April 1988 grew to 51 members. Today there are over
160 members in the Cincinnati Chapter. Dayton started their
own independent chapter on January 1, 1990.
